Grandma’s Family Tradition German Christmas Stollen

Course Dessert

Ingredients
  

  • 2/3 cups butter
  • 10 tbsp sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • lemon zest
  • 3 2/3 cups all purpose flour
  • 8 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 cup of evaporated milk
  • 100 grams golden raisins
  • 100 grams almonds, finelychopped

For the glaze & dusting:

  • 1 stick unsalted butter,melted
  • powdered sugar forgenerous dusting

Instructions
 

  • Turn the oven to 300 degrees F.
  • Mix the butter until its creamy by mixer.
  • Add the sugar to the creamy mix.
  • Beat the eggs in a separate bowl.
  • Add the eggs and zest to the mix
  • Sift the flour and baking powder
  • Intersperse the flour mix with the milk (might need moremilk if its too dry)
  • Take it out of the mixer and add the raisins with the flourso they don’t go to the bottom.
  • Turn the dough out onto a floured work surface and cut itin two equal halves. Press or roll each piece into an oval toabout 1 inch thickness.
  • Fold in 2 but don’t fold the right side all the way overthe left edge of the stollen.
  • Place the stollen on a lined baking sheet.
  • Bake for 55 minutes or until golden.
  • Then generously brush the stollen with the melted butterwhile still warm and immediately sprinkle with powderedsugar, rubbing it into the creases and down the sides.
